Riley "Skippy" Grisham “I became interested in the fire service as a child, growing up in North Louisiana. I had an aunt who was a career firefighter, and one day after taking a tour of the fire station I was fascinated. As I grew older, I became more interested in public safety. In 2011 there were a series of wild fires near my childhood home. A family friend, who was a retired Fire Chief, took me to one of the wildfire areas. Seeing the trucks and firefighters battling the blaze re-ignited my interest in the fire service. I joined the fire explorer ride-along program at a local city department, which inspired me to become a career firefighter. In 2012 I joined my local rural fire department and became a junior volunteer firefighter. After moving to South Louisiana In 2015, I graduated from the fire academy and began my career in the fire service. I joined the Grand Coteau Fire Department as a part-time Firefighter/Operator in 2017. I became Chief of the Grand Coteau Fire Department in 2020. Serving as the Fire Chief and working alongside such dedicated part-time and volunteer members is an honor. I currently work full-time as a Firefighter/Operator for a nearby city fire department and serve as the Grand Coteau Fire Chief part-time. I am also an active volunteer firefighter for a local volunteer fire department. I am very passionate about the fire service, and I am blessed to be fulfilling my childhood dream.” | |
Mark Berry I first joined a volunteer fire department in 1992 in Parks, LA. They responded to my house when the motor on a dishwasher caught fire. No damage was done to my house, but when I realized Parks was an all volunteer department I figured they showed up for me, so why not give them a hand and I joined shortly thereafter. I was with the Parks Dept. until taking a job with the state that moved me to north Louisiana in September 2001. Shortly after moving there the fire chief there was informed that I was a volunteer firefighter and approached me about joining their Dept. I joined them and learned a whole lot about rural fire fighting and doing so without the availability of a municipal water supply. I moved back to south Louisiana in the fall of 2012 and thought my days of volunteering were over. However in 2014 I noticed a sign in my community of Grand Coteau asking for volunteers for the fire dept. I went to the next meeting and joined them. | Glen Maglalang - |
